The short answer
Yes. Eggs are one of the easiest proteins to eat on a GLP-1: a large egg gives about 6 grams of protein in a small, soft portion. Egg protein is also rich in sulfur, so a big or greasy egg meal sitting in a slowed stomach can ferment into rotten-egg burps. The fix is the portion and the pan: one or two eggs at a time, cooked with little fat.
At GLP-1 SOS, eggs are the food people ask about right after their first sulfur burp, usually with one question: do I have to give them up? Almost never. For the full mechanism behind the smell, read why sulfur burps happen on a GLP-1.
At a glance
Eggs on a GLP-1, in three lines
1
Good protein, small portion
About 6 grams of protein per large egg, soft and easy to eat.
2
Sulfur is the catch
Egg protein carries sulfur. In a slow stomach, gut bacteria turn it into rotten-egg gas.
3
Dose and pan decide
One or two eggs cooked lean usually sit well. Three fried with bacon and cheese often do not.
What is actually happening
Eggs solve a real problem on a GLP-1. When meals shrink, protein is usually the first thing to fall short. A large egg, about 50 grams, holds 6.3 grams of protein and roughly 70 calories, according to USDA FoodData Central, in a soft portion that is easy to eat when appetite is low.
The catch is sulfur. Egg protein is rich in two sulfur-containing amino acids, methionine and cysteine, and gut bacteria break cysteine down into hydrogen sulfide, the rotten-egg gas. A GLP-1 slows how fast your stomach empties, as all four injectable labels state, so an egg meal sits longer and the gas has more time to form and come back up. Burping was reported by 7 percent of adults on Wegovy in its weight-loss trials, against under 1 percent on placebo, and by 4 to 5 percent on Zepbound, against 1 percent.
Lab note
Eggs are not the problem. Three eggs fried in butter on the day after your shot can be.
Fat is the second lever. A large egg carries about 5 grams of fat before it touches the pan; butter, bacon and cheese add much more. Fat slows the stomach further, which is why expert guidance on GLP-1 stomach symptoms recommends smaller, lower-fat meals. A fatty egg plate in the one to three days after your shot, when the medication level peaks, stacks the most sulfur on the slowest stomach.

How to keep eggs on the menu
- Start with one or two eggs. Treat an egg as one part of a small meal. Two eggs give about 13 grams of protein, a useful step toward your daily protein target without overloading a slow stomach.
- Cook them lean. Poached, boiled, or scrambled in a nonstick pan with a teaspoon of oil. Save butter, bacon and cheese for later in the shot week, if at all.
- Do not stack the sulfur. Eggs, cheese and a whey shake in one meal is three high-sulfur proteins at once. Pair eggs with toast, rice or potato instead, and keep broccoli and cabbage for another meal.
- Time them with the shot week. Keep egg portions smallest on the shot day and the two after it. Days four to seven are the easier days for a bigger egg meal.
- Keep one calm evening routine. A small dinner, a short walk and a cup of ginger tea after it, the same every night. That routine is why we built GLP-1 SOS Daily Gut Relief: 200 mg of ginger root, 50 mg of peppermint and a 19-strain probiotic blend in 2 capsules with dinner, designed to support digestive comfort on a slow gut.*
- If the burps keep coming, pause eggs for a few days. Swap to fish, tofu or a little Greek yogurt, then bring eggs back one at a time. Our page on how to stop sulfur burps has the full plan.

Two kinds of egg meal
Usually sits well, or often backfires
Usually sits well
- One or two eggs, poached or soft-boiled
- Scrambled in a nonstick pan with a little oil
- Eggs with toast, rice or potato
- Eggs on days four to seven after the shot
Often backfires
- Three or more eggs in one sitting
- Fried in butter, with bacon or sausage
- Eggs plus cheese plus a whey shake
- A big egg plate the day after the shot
Same egg, different plate.
When to call your doctor
Burps alone are not dangerous. Call your prescriber the same day if:
- Sulfur burps come with vomiting more than once in a day, or you cannot keep liquids down
- You have severe belly pain that does not go away, with or without vomiting, sometimes spreading to your back
- You have pain in the upper right belly, fever, or yellowing of your skin or eyes
- Burping and bloating get worse with each shot instead of settling
If your lips, tongue or throat swell or you struggle to breathe after eating, call 911. That is an allergic reaction, not a burp.

Questions people also ask
Can I eat eggs on Ozempic or Wegovy?
Yes. No GLP-1 label restricts eggs, and they are one of the easiest proteins to eat when appetite is low: about 6 grams of protein per large egg. What changes on semaglutide is the stomach they land in. It empties more slowly, so a large or greasy egg meal sits longer. One or two eggs cooked with little fat usually sit well, especially away from the days right after your shot.
Why do eggs give me sulfur burps on Mounjaro or Zepbound?
Egg protein contains sulfur amino acids, and gut bacteria turn cysteine into hydrogen sulfide, the rotten-egg gas. Tirzepatide slows how fast the stomach empties, so the egg sits longer and more gas forms before it moves on. The Zepbound label lists burping in 4 to 5 percent of adults, against 1 percent on placebo. Smaller, leaner portions usually fix it.
How many eggs a day can I eat on a GLP-1?
The labels set no food limits, so there is no official egg number on a GLP-1. For your stomach, one or two eggs per meal is a sensible start, since larger portions are what usually trigger burps. If you have high cholesterol, heart disease or diabetes, ask your doctor or a dietitian how many eggs fit your overall diet.
Are egg whites better than whole eggs for sulfur burps?
They help with fat, not with sulfur. The yolk carries nearly all of an egg’s fat, so whites sit lighter on a slow stomach, but the white still holds sulfur-containing protein and a large portion can still cause burps. If whole eggs bother you, try one whole egg with one or two whites, cooked in a nonstick pan.
Should I stop eating eggs if I have sulfur burps on a GLP-1?
Only for a few days, if at all. Most people do well by cutting the portion, cooking with less fat and keeping eggs away from the days right after the shot. If the burps keep coming, pause eggs, swap to fish or tofu, then reintroduce one egg at a time. See how to stop sulfur burps on a GLP-1 for the full plan.
